Sunday’s fixture will be the first time Saints take part in the competition since February 2020.

Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side made it to semi-finals during the 2019/20, narrowly losing out to higher division side Sunderland in February 2020.

This weekend see’s Saints finally face Cheltenham again; two sides that despite being in the same division for two seasons have only met each other once out of a possible four occasions.

Playing their football in Division One South West, the Robins have enjoyed a positive start to the new campaign, winning three and losing just one of the opening five games.

LAST MEETING

That sole meeting between the two sides came at the start of the 2019/20 season in front of a bumper crowd at Snows Stadium.

Goals from Shannon Sievwright, Ella Pusey, Kirsty Whitton and Rachel Panting secured a 4-0 win for Saints in the September sun.

The result proved a bit win for Saints, with Cheltenham sitting just behind them in second prior to the game.

Due to COVID restrictions it was the only time the two sides would face each other across the last two seasons.

MANAGER’S NOTES

“We had a really good run in this competition in the year we were able to play in it,” said Spacey-Cale. “We got to the semi-finals and we enjoyed that a lot.

“We’re looking forward to the game against Cheltenham on Sunday because it’s a different competition and it’s something away from the league. In this competition it’s a one-off game and whoever performs on the day will get through.

“Every competition we go into we go into it to win. We want to compete at every level and at the highest level possible.

To be able to do that you’ve got into the League Cup, the FA Cup, the league with a view of going in to win.”
