One year ago today, Southampton Football Club and Saints Foundation launched Saints As One, supporting our local community in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Over the past 12 months, we’ve worked alongside the Foundation to launch initiatives to help those that were isolated and vulnerable during the pandemic, while also continuing to support people in and around Southampton through Saints Foundation’s wide-reaching programmes.
Between December and February, Saints Foundation staff volunteered 500 hours to support Solent NHS Trust’s rollout of the city’s vaccination programme, providing a friendly and reassuring presence while guiding older and vulnerable patients through the clinic.
Prior to that, the club donated £10,000 of presents to Southampton City Council’s annual toy appeal, that were then gifted to young people who are supported by the Council’s children’s services, ensuring they had a special surprise to open on Christmas Day.
The Foundation continued to stay connected to its participants throughout the nationwide lockdowns, including over 88,000 minutes of one-to-one calls with older adults and 800 hours of mentoring to secondary age young people through their Community Champions programme.
During the initial lockdown, through a partnership with FareShare Southern Central, club chefs cooked an incredible 13,000 meals, with Saints Foundation staff volunteering 1,700 hours of their time to distribute them across the local area. In addition, Foundation staff also made 2,000 deliveries of prescriptions to people who were isolating.
