The last time Saints wore the third kit, a last minute equaliser sealed a draw against Chelsea.

HOW TO WATCH

Saints fans will need to purchase the game from Sky Sports Box Office at a cost of £14.95, after being chosen for pay-per-view broadcast.

WHAT’S AT STAKE?

Saints have risen to the higher echelons of the Premier League table in recent weeks thanks to a four-match unbeaten run consisting of three wins and a draw.

Ralph Hasenhüttl will be looking to extend that run at Villa Park to keep Saints firmly in the top half of the Premier League table and hopefully break into the top six depending on results.

Aston Villa have started the season in excellent form, including an eye-catching 7-2 win against current Premier League champions Liverpool, to currently sit in third.

However, last time out saw them lose their first league game of the season as they were beaten 3-0 by Leeds United, so Dean Smith will be looking for a response on Sunday.

TEAM NEWS

Moussa Djenepo, Mohammed Salisu and Will Smallbone are all back in training but the weekend will come too soon for the trio.

However, after not featuring against Everton due to the terms of his loan deal, Theo Walcott returns to the squad to face Aston Villa.

Villa boss Dean Smith has reported no new injury concerns for this weekend and has suggested that after their first loss of the season, there will be players ‘smelling blood’ to get into the starting line-up.

THE MANAGERS

Ralph Hasenhüttl: “(Aston) Villa have made some very good steps forward in the summer with a few good signings but are also better organised. They are a team that are definitely doing well and had a fantastic start to the season.

“You have to have a good counter press and defence otherwise it is difficult against this opponent. I think every part of our game must be on the highest level because otherwise it’s not possible to win there.”

Dean Smith: “They were good against Everton last week and had a really good comeback against Chelsea the week before as well. They’ve been a team that you can look at since Project Restart that have been really strong, solid and reliable.

"They’ve got goals in the team with Danny Ings and Ché Adams. They’ve got a really good systematic approach that works for them. We’ll have to be at our best.”

ONES TO WATCH

Ché Adams: The striker has been shown full faith since the start of the season by Ralph Hasenhüttl, and was unlucky to have to wait until the 3-3 draw at Chelsea to get his first goal of the season.

In his previous two games Adams has now assisted and scored twice, as his bond with Danny Ings grows stronger.

Jack Grealish: It’s hard to look past the England International who is seen as the heartbeat of the Villa side.

With four goals and three assists in all competitions so far this season, the stats tell the story of why Saints will need to keep the Villa captain quiet on Sunday.

Aston Villa:

Goals:

Ollie Watkins 5
Jack Grealish 4
Ross Barkley 2

Assists:

John McGinn 4

Jack Grealish 3

Henri Lansbury, Trezeguet 2

Southampton:

Goals:

Danny Ings 4

Ché Adams 2

Romeu, Djenepo, Vestergaard, Ward-Prowse 1
