Black History Month: Listen to our podcasts

By SFC Media time Tue 27 Oct Equality and Diversity

Throughout October, Southampton Football Club has been celebrating Black History Month with a variety of activities to support and educate.

Included among this is a series of podcasts with special guests, finding out what Black History Month means to them and talking about some of their experiences.

These have been shared with all staff across the club and are also being made available to supporters.

In the first, we caught up with Abena Ntiri-Akuffo, who works with our Girls and Women’s team as Player Care Officer and a Sports Therapist.

In her podcast, she talks about growing up as a young black girl playing football, the impact this had on herself and her family and the importance of black role models for youngsters.

We have also been joined by Lou Taylor, Director of Black History Month South and advisor for the Southampton 2025 City of Culture Bid steering committee.

He joined us to chat about the meaning of Black History Month and why we celebrate it, along with Southampton’s black past and his passionate views on educating our next generation across the city.

The club is also producing further episodes and will be making these available too as they are released.
