Defender Alfie Jones has today completed a permanent transfer from Southampton to Hull City.

The 22-year-old Academy graduate departs St Mary’s for the League One side ahead of the 2020/21 season, as he looks to help them make a swift return to the Championship.

It ends a long association with Saints for Bristol-born Jones, who had been with the club since the age of nine and who was named Young Player of the Year in 2015.

The versatile youngster, who is comfortable playing in midfield as well as defence, has previously enjoyed successful loan spells with St Mirren and Gillingham, but now departs Southampton permanently.

Academy Director Matt Hale said: “Alfie has an exciting opportunity to fully launch his senior football career and continue the progress he has made on the back of his two loan spells. We believe Alfie is at that age now where senior football is what he needs. He is a tremendous character and we have no doubt he will be a strong player for Hull City. We wish him every success in the future.”
