The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has shortlisted Moussa Djenepo for its 2019 African Youth Player of the Year award.
The Malian arrived at St Mary’s in the summer from Standard Liège and has made a quick adjustment to the Premier League, scoring vital goals in victories at both Brighton and Sheffield United.
Whilst in Belgium last season, Djenepo helped Liège to a third-place finish as well as qualification for the Europa League, supplying 11 goals in the process.
The lively attacker has also built on his burgeoning international career, becoming a mainstay in the Mali squad.
With the Eagles recently embarking on their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, Djenepo was on target earlier this month in a 2-0 win over Chad to maintain their unbeaten start.
Up against 15 other nominees - including Watford's Ismaïla Sarr - the list of nominees is compiled by a panel of media and technical professionals and the awards will take place on Tuesday 7th January 2020 in Hurghada, Egypt.
