Women's Preview: Saints vs Brislington

By SFC Media time Fri 30 Aug Womens Team

A perfect start to 2019/20 continued for Southampton FC Women last weekend, as they sealed FA National League Cup progression courtesy of a 6-0 triumph over Ipswich Town.

This week, attention turns back to the league as Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side host Brislington at AFC Totton, 2pm BST.

Saints have taken to life in the National League set-up superbly since promotion last season, and remain unbeaten since the beginning of the year - they in fact have a 100% record dating back to January 20th.

Their next task comes in the form of three games in seven days, starting with Sunday’s clash against Brislington, before away trips to Swindon Town and Buckland.

"The two games we've played so far this season, I feel like we've learnt and grown," Head Coach Marieanne explained. "We've got three games in seven days coming up now, but the girls will go in confident.

we want crowds at afc totton. we want fans to watch us and be entertained.

"This league is still new to us and so are the teams we're facing. There are plenty of different problems we need to solve on the pitch as well as off it.

"I'm excited by the challenge of every game, but also reassured by the performances so far this season.

"The integration of new players is going really well; we've enhanced our squad. We're trying to ensure, as staff, that we're getting the balance right.

"There are a lot of players competing for selection and we want to keep the team fresh over a long season.

"The ground staff have been fantastic, getting the pitch at AFC Totton to a great place. We want crowds there, we want fans to watch the girls and we want to entertain them!"
