Ralph Hasenhüttl thanked the Southampton supporters for helping his team secure three vital points in pursuit of Premier League survival after the 2-0 home victory over Fulham.
Saints climbed out of the bottom three and left the visitors ten points adrift of safety after first-half goals from Oriol Romeu and James Ward-Prowse proved decisive at St Mary’s.
Boss Hasenhüttl was quick to pay tribute to the fans for the part they played from the stands, as Saints took hold of the game early on and never looked like surrendering their grip.
“It was a massive support from outside today,” he said. “In every second of the game, you could feel everybody knows what it was about to win this game.
“That was very good to see and that is the reason I have to thank all the supporters here today in the stadium.
“I think they saw a team that knows how important it was to give everything for Southampton Football Club.
“Together we have had a fantastic evening. We need a few more until the end. If we have them, it’s a good chance to stay (in the Premier League).
“It was very professional from our team today. We put a little bit more experience on the pitch – it was clear this team (Fulham) were coming here looking at their last chance to come closer to us.
“Although they had more ball possession, I think we defended it very, very concentrated, and it was a clinical, professional performance.”
