Ramsay makes his debut
Ralph Hasenhüttl handed another Southampton youngster a senior debut, as Kayne Ramsay started Sunday’s Premier League game against Manchester City.
At 18 years and 81 days, the full-back became the youngest player to start a Premier League game this season.
Hasenhüttl said: “I think it was a very important game for Kayne and I think he did a good job. I think he will learn a lot as it was one of the best teams in the world we came up against. It’s an amazing experience for such a young guy like he is.”
Højbjerg facing a four-game ban
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s late sending off against Manchester City was his second red card of the season and leaves the midfielder facing a four-game ban.
Højbjerg was dismissed for his lunging challenge on Fernandinho in the dying stages of the 3-1 loss, having only just returned from a one-match ban.
As it stands, he is now set to miss the Chelsea, Derby, Leicester and Everton games.
Chelsea up next
Saints are back in action on Wednesday night, as they travel to Chelsea for another Premier League game.
With two games in such quick succession, Hasenhüttl has already indicated he plans to make changes to his side.
Speaking after the City game, in which he had made six changes, Hasenhüttl said: “The substitutions I made were very focused on the Chelsea game. I took Oriol off and didn't bring Ingsy and Armstrong on, and tried to prepare for Chelsea.”
Youth sides back in action
After a break for Christmas, Southampton’s youngsters return to action this week.
The Under-23s are at home to Stoke City on Friday night, as their Premier League 2 campaign gets back up and running.
The Under-18s also have a game at Staplewood Campus, as their Under-18 Premier League season continues at home to West Ham on Saturday morning.
Women’s league campaign restarts
Southampton FC Women are also back in action later this week, after the end of their Christmas break.
Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side are away to Warsash Wasps on Sunday afternoon, as they look to keeper their 100 per cent record in the Southern Region Women’s Premier Division going.
