Named as the club's Player of the Season this week, goalkeeper Alex McCarthy spoke of how crucial the Saints faithful have been in keeping spirits high during the difficult moments of this season.
Understanding the frustration felt by all, McCarthy thanked the generous support of the fans in recent weeks, and hopes that next year, the club will be challenging at the right end of the Premier League table.
"We knew it was going to be a rough ride. We needed to get the points on the board before the City game," the keeper said, reflecting on Saints' season finale against Man City.
"It would have been nice to finish with a clean sheet but the main thing is we'll be playing Premier League football next season!

"We can all go away, fans included, enjoy the summer, and return with a positive platform. The positives we take out of this season we'll put into next. And hopefully we'll be challenging further up the table next year.
"The fans have been excellent for us these last few weeks, and the whole season really.
"It's been frustrating for them as much as it has for us. They've got us through games and finally we've got the points we needed. They've been crucial!"
