Under-23s coach Radhi Jaïdi has praised his young side's progression in the aftermath of their 2-1 triumph over Middlesbrough at St Mary's.
Despite securing the win, Saints missed out on a play-off spot by a single point, pipped to the post by Reading, who were themselves victors on the final day of the Premier League 2 season.
Assessing tonight's performance, and the campaign as a whole, Jaïdi has been pleased to see significant growth and development in his young players, and expects bright futures as they advance at the club.
"I spoke to the boys generally, we went through the season in a couple of minutes," Jaïdi reflected. "We've made big improvements in all aspects. We've come far, the boys are understanding what's needed at this level.
"Everyone is pleased with the performance tonight and the goals we scored. We did what we needed to, but you can't depend on other people. We can learn from that. We'll grow stronger and better with this generation.
"They've showed commitment, and the hard work needed to push to the next level. I'm pleased with that.
"You can see the progression on the field. The first team staff who were watching, they've witnessed the growth tonight.
"I'll keep it positive, we've seen proper development this season, and we've finished on a high. It's been a satisfying season and hopefully the future is better!"
