Tadić: We needed to show more courage

Dušan Tadić felt Southampton needed to show more courage against West Bromwich Albion at St Mary’s.

Shane Long’s goal looked to have given Saints a foothold in the game heading into half time, but the Baggies hit back immediately through Matt Phillips to send the sides in level at the break.

A powerful strike from Hal Robson-Kanu soon after the restart made life harder for Saints, and Tadić admitted it wasn’t good enough against the Baggies.

“We knew that it would be a difficult game, because West Brom is a good team, but we opened with a good start,” Tadić said.

“They always defend good, but we open and we are then leading one-nil.

“But then they score a quick goal and we lost a little bit of control. We are really disappointed.

“Maybe it would have been more difficult for them if we were leading at half time, but still I think we should play much better after and with more courage.”

Despite a disappointing end to the year, Tadić insists Saints cannot afford to let their heads drop.

“It’s important to still have confidence and belief. We are really disappointed, but we need to all take responsibility and keep going,” the Serbian playmaker concluded.
