Southampton Football Club is pleased to announce the launch of The Southampton Cup, which will take place in August 2017.

The eight-day football tournament, which is being hosted in Southampton and the surrounding area, will involve boys and girls’ teams from across the globe.

The tournament already has some of the best European teams signed up including RSC Anderlecht, Dinamo Zagreb and Real Club Deportivo La Coruna, as well as a number of professional academies from the UK and abroad.

The tournament will become a key fixture in the calendar for youth football clubs around the world, bringing some of the most talented young players to the region for a ‘festival of football’.

The Southampton Cup will get under way on Saturday 5th August and run for eight days, with the competition open to both professional academy teams (Academy Section) and non-elite teams (Premier Section). Some of the games will be hosted at the club’s Staplewood Campus.

In year one, the competition will see Under-12 and Under-14 boys’ teams and Under-14 and Under-16 girls’ teams participate for a chance to win a coveted trophy to take back home.

As part of the week, players and coaches will have the opportunity to attend a first-team game at St Mary’s, as well as tour the club’s Premier League stadium.

Southampton will arrange all accommodation as part of the entry package, which will be priced per player, allowing teams to keep their focus on turning their team’s potential into excellence.

Tournament Manager Sophie Dugan said: “We can’t wait to get The Southampton Cup under way. Our aim is to become one of the leading youth football tournaments worldwide, and one teams will want to return to, year after year.

“The tournament will be a real platform for players across the globe to be exposed to the Southampton Way and display their talents against global teams.”

Commercial Director David Thomas said: “It will be fantastic to see some of the world’s best academies take part in the first ever Southampton Cup. We are very excited to welcome them to Southampton and to the club, and I am sure they will receive the best possible welcome.”
