Southampton’s Under-12 side took part in the Premier League Truce Tournament National qualifiers on Sunday.

The tournament, which has been running since 2011, is an international tournament that takes place in Ypres, Belgium, as part of the Premier League’s Football Remembers work.

Four teams from England have now progressed to the Truce Tournament finals, which will take place in Ypres between 9th and 11th December.

Saints were part of a seven-team tournament on Sunday, which took place at HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth, competing against AFC Bournemouth, Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Watford.

Crystal Palace were the eventual winners, while Saints finished the tournament as runners-up, meaning the Eagles will compete at next month’s finals in Belgium.

Before the tournament got under way on Sunday, all of the teams assembled at 11am for a two-minute silence, after which one player from each team lay a wreath, while another read out names of former players from their own club who sadly lost their lives in battle.

This year the national qualifiers had extra resonance for those taking part, with this weekend's matches taking place at bases for the armed forces, further highlighting the importance of Remembrance Sunday to the youngsters.
