Defensive record delights Puel

By SFC Media time Sun 02 Oct Leicester vs Saints

Claude Puel says Southampton’s run of six matches without conceding is down to the entire team and not just his defence.

Saints have not allowed a goal against them since suffering a 2-1 defeat away to Arsenal early last month, as they extended that run with a 0-0 draw away to defending Premier League champions Leicester City.

It is a record that Puel is delighted with, but one that he says is down to the side as a while.

"All this shows that we are strong in defence, but it is all the team with a good solidarity,” he said.

“But it's important also to score, and we had many possibilities and chances. Ok, it's positive and it's very interesting, but it's important to continue the work and to look for different wins for the future.”

While he would have liked a greater cutting edge, Puel was pleased with the way his team moved the ball against the Foxes.

"It's important to improve this play on the ground and to see this against this team, because they are a great team, strong in defence and difficult to play against. It's interesting for the future,” he said.
