James Ward-Prowse believes Southampton have put themselves in a good position in Group K following their draw with Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
Claude Puel’s men drew 0-0 with the Israeli side on Thursday night to make it four points from their opening two games after victory against Sparta Praha before that.
A trip to Internazionale is up next for Saints, and Ward-Prowse feels as though Puel’s side have put themselves in a good position after two games.
“We’ve given ourselves a really good chance to progress to the next stage,” said Ward-Prowse.
“We have to continue and build on this. It’s another game unbeaten and we have to take that into the rest of the games in this group.
“Obviously we wanted to win the game, but sometimes you can’t do that. The opposition stop you and like I said, away from home it’s a valuable point.
“I think we’re disappointed not to get all three points. It’s a difficult place to come and there was a great atmosphere.
“I think in the first half we had a few difficulties, but I think in the end we’ve come away with a valuable point.”
Saints now face Leicester City on Sunday, and Ward-Prowse insists they’re going into it full of confidence.
“It would be great to get a win before the international break,” he added.
“We have to keep building, but I think we’re looking solid and confidence at the moment. We have proven we’re solid defensively.”
