Southampton’s José Fonte and Cédric will have the chance to book a place in the EURO 2016 semi-finals tonight, as Portugal take on Poland.
The Saints pair started in the win over Croatia in the last 16, and will be hoping to retain their place in the line-up this evening, in Marseille (kick-off 8pm BST).
Portugal’s progress to the quarter-finals of the tournament has been slightly unusual, in that they have not yet won a game over the normal 90 minutes.
Three draws in the group stage was enough to see them into the knockout rounds as one of the best third-placed sides, before they beat Croatia 1-0 in the dying stages of extra time last weekend.
Fonte and Cédric had both been unused subs during all of the group matches, but helped Portugal turn in an impressive defensive display in their last-16 match and should be in with a good chance of starting again tonight.
The winner of the match, which is the first of the four quarter-finals, will face a semi-final with whoever prevails in the clash between Wales and Belgium tomorrow.
