Tadić: We'll learn the lessons from City defeat

Dušan Tadić believes Southampton will learn the lessons from their 3-1 defeat at Manchester City, as they now turn their attention towards the Capital One Cup.

Saturday’s loss at the Etihad Stadium was the first time Saints have been beaten away from home in the Premier League this season.

Ronald Koeman’s side did mount an impressive comeback effort after falling 2-0 down to goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Fabian Delph in the first 20 minutes, but they couldn’t quite complete the rally.

Tadić told the Southern Daily Echo: “When you make some small mistakes against this kind of teams it’s really hard and they will punish you.

“I think we need to learn a lot of things from this game. Even the smallest of mistakes you can’t have them.

“You need to be more concentrated and focused.”

Tadić came off the bench at half-time, helping to spark an impressive team performance after the interval, as Shane Long reduced the deficit with a header before Tadić was denied in a one-on-one with City keeper Willy Caballero, ahead of Aleksandar Kolarov wrapping up the result.

“We played with more courage second-half,” said Tadić. “We wanted to press them and we wanted to play more football, then it was easier for us and that was the big difference.”

Tadić, who felt the outcome could have been different had his chip over Caballero at 2-1 not been saved, added that he feels fresh ahead of Wednesday’s Capital One Cup quarter-final at home to Liverpool, having started on the bench at the Etihad.

“We have a lot of games. It’s normal, sometimes you start, sometimes you’re on the bench,” he said.

“We have an important game against Liverpool on Wednesday and I feel good.”
