Cédric looking to build on positive month

By SFC Media time Sat 31 Oct Club

After a positive month both individually and collectively, Southampton’s Cédric says he’s really starting to adapt to life in the Barclays Premier League.

The right-back, who required eight stitches following a nasty collision during the 2-2 draw with Leicester City, put in excellent displays at Stamford Bridge and Anfield during the month of October.

For Cédric, who joined from Portuguese side Sporting CP in the summer, it was a month in which he felt like he really started to settle into his new surroundings.

“This month was a good month for me. I think my performances were nice and I felt good with my colleagues,” he told youtube.com/southamptonfc ahead of Sunday’s game against AFC Bournemouth.

“I’m starting to adapt now to the way we play, to the small details that we need to change sometimes when you change countries.

“Coming to England there are some small things as well that you need to adapt to and I think this month I got used to it.

“I think I grow up as a player as well and that’s my target.”

It’s not just with his teammates that Cédric is gaining a good understanding with. The Portuguese international believes he’s really come to terms with what manager Ronald Koeman expects of his full-backs.

“It always depends from coaches because some coaches like one way and some like another. I’m getting used to Ronald Koeman as well,” Cédric added.

“I think I understand better the way he wants to play. We are doing well, so I’m trying my best to do always what he asks me to do.”

Koeman opted to go with Maya Yoshida at right-back for Wednesday night’s Capital One Cup tie with Aston Villa, and with Cuco Martina also looking to feature in that position, Cédric is happy to have strong competition for a spot in the team.

“You always have competition, it’s nothing new for me,” he explained. “When I go to the national team there are so many good players as well.

“You always need to keep your level, that’s a good thing – competition. You always need to be better and better, so that’s okay for me.”
