Ronald Koeman was delighted with his side’s “outstanding” display against Chelsea, as they beat the champions 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.
After going behind early on to Willian’s free-kick, Koeman’s men turned the game around with goals from Steven Davis, Sadio Mané and Graziano Pellè sealing the win.
Koeman felt his side’s second half performance was as good as it could have been, as they made it back-to-back wins in the Barclays Premier League.
“It’s a fantastic win, even against Chelsea, who are maybe a little bit more struggling than usually and you saw that even at the 1-1,” Koeman told Southampton’s official YouTube channel.
“When we scored the 1-1 we were the better team on the pitch and we had the better chances. It was perfect.
“A very strong start and we scored the 2-1 and the 3-1. After that we had a really strong defensive organisation and fantastic spirit. It was outstanding.
“We spoke about it at half-time about how not to go back, try to press them and play offensively. We showed that in the second half how we played.”
Saints have found the going tough on the road since the turn of the year, but Koeman says to turn their fortunes around at Stamford Bridge makes the victory even sweeter.
“It’s a great moment because we were waiting a long time for an away win and we get this one against Chelsea. That makes it more special,” he added.
“Maybe the way how we got the win last week gave the players that real confidence what you need. If you can show that against teams like Chelsea that’s very positive.
“Maybe we were a little bit disappointed about the fast 1-0, but after that we played like we had the belief to win the game and we showed that in a fantastic second half.”
