THE TOP FIVE:
Fraser Forster vs Arsenal (A) – 3rd December 2014
The first in our collection of the five best from the campaign was at the Emirates Stadium, as Saints took on Arsenal.
Forster was in inspired form and produced an excellent fingertip save to keep out Danny Welbeck’s flicked header during a goalless first 45 minutes.
Fraser Forster vs Arsenal (A) – 3rd December 2014
The 27 year-old then made a save of similar brilliance in the second half of Saints’ trip to Arsenal as he clawed away Olivier Giroud’s header that looked to be looping into the far corner.
Fraser Forster vs Arsenal (H) – 1st January 2015
While Saints may have gone on to lose at the Emirates, Forster’s stunning save to keep out Alexis Sanchez played a huge part in victory against the Gunners at St Mary’s.
Sadio Mané had put Saints ahead in the first half but Arsenal rallied at the start of the second and Forster had to be at his best to get down low to his left to keep out Sanchez’s strike from close range. Moments after the save, Dušan Tadić added a second and sealed a memorable win for Ronald Koeman’s side.
Fraser Forster vs Queens Park Rangers (A) – 7th February 2015
With the scores level at 0-0 and QPR in desperate search of a goal in front of their home fans, Forster produced a point-blank reaction save to keep out Charlie Austin’s effort.
Austin touched on Joey Barton’s strike from six yards, but Forster stayed big and was able to push the ball over the bar. It would prove a huge moment in the game as Sadio Mané won it late on for Saints.
Kelvin Davis vs Burnley (H) – 21st March 2015
Forster’s injury earlier in the game meant Davis came on for his first appearance of the campaign. Shane Long put Saints 1-0 up before Davis made a fine stop to keep out a curling effort from Danny Ings.
Saints would go on to win the game 2-0, with Davis’s save proving a key moment in the match.
