Ryan Bertrand says he has never been part of a more hard-working and driven squad than the one currently in place at Southampton.
In an exclusive interview with the new issue of SAINTS, the club’s official matchday magazine, the on-loan left-back says he’s thoroughly enjoying life on the south coast.
“I’ve been amongst a few clubs but I’ve never been in a group like this,” Ryan affirms. “It’s quite unique.
“We have quality in depth but there’s still an ambition to learn and get better. There’s a hunger to win, and a real cohesion.
“For example, this week we had the result at Arsenal and were scheduled to have a day off on Wednesday but the boys changed that so we could work harder and make sure we were 100% right for the weekend.
“A day off is great, but we were already thinking about QPR. Beating Arsenal was great, but we quickly put that to bed. We were really, really hungry for the weekend.
“With the current vein of form we’re in, we just want to keep going because we’re starting to breed that winning mentality. We want to be physically as ready as we can be, so hopefully that decision pays off this weekend.
“From the manager to the players to the fans to the people behind the scenes, everyone is really pulling their weight and striving to be the best they can possibly be in every single aspect.”
The full interview with Bertrand can be found in the new edition of SAINTS, which is out for tomorrow’s visit of Queens Park Rangers.
Also included in the new edition is a ten-page look at our opponents, action photos from recent wins over Swansea and Newcastle plus an in-depth feature on club secretary Ros Wheeler-Osman, who is in her 25th year as a Saint.
If that’s not enough, don’t miss the thoughts of manager Ronald Koeman and club captain Kelvin Davis, who provide insight from the dressing room, while another fan lists their greatest-ever Saints team and shares their cherished memories of following the club.
The new 84-page edition of SAINTS is available at St Mary’s on Saturday for just £4, and can be ordered online for home delivery right now.
