Mauricio Pochettino hailed Southampton’s performance in today’s victory over Newcastle as “irresistible”.

The Saints boss watched as Jay Rodriguez’s double sandwiched goals from Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana helped the side to a 4-0 victory.

The result lifts Southampton above Newcastle into eighth place, with Pochettino overjoyed at the standard of the showing.

“It was certainly a fantastic game which we had today,” he told Saints Player

“The players put in a fantastic effort and we deserved the victory, as did our fans. Overall we had a fantastic game.

“We had a brilliant first half and completely nullified Newcastle. We didn’t let them do anything during the entire game.

“We gave our best today and want to give this victory to our amazing supporters – we are really happy for them,” continued Pochettino.

“I think a 4-0 scoreline is an outstanding result. It was a complete match for our side and it was a brilliant game.

“There were phases of the game when we were irresistible – we were amazing. Not to concede any goals tops an amazing performance.”
