Chambers was part of the team that held title challenging Arsenal to a 2-2 draw at St Mary’s in midweek, and now the full-back has set his sights on another strong performance against a team he says Saints won’t be treating lightly.

The Cottagers sit just one place off the foot of the table in 19th, but Chambers knows it will take a big performance to record a second win of the season over this weekend’s hosts.

He told Saints Player: “Fulham are a team with lots of good players and it will be a tough test for us so we need to be one hundred per cent focused and concentrated on our game.

“I think we can go into it with confidence after our last performance though and we’ll give it a good shot. I feel that our performances of late have been good and as a team we’re showing people what we’re capable of.

“Every game is vital and you go into every game hoping for a win so the games that are coming up we will to go into them looking to get three points and just try to climb up the table.”

Chambers has enjoyed an extended run in the team of late by playing in eight out of the last nine Premier League games. The only game he missed was the 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion where he was sidelined through illness, but he was soon restored for the matches against Sunderland and Arsenal, which has provided a further boost to the youngster’s learning curve.

“I’m delighted to be playing in any game in the Premier League and to have a run like I’ve had is really good,” he explained.

“I’m taking every game as it comes and just giving it one hundred per cent to just try and show everyone what I can do.

“After each game you look back on it and learn from it so I’m gaining more experience with every game and I feel like I have come a long way since the start of the season.”

Having made his debut in the opening game of the season, Chambers has not had long to adapt to the demands of playing top-flight football, but the recently turned 19 year-old says he has learned fast.

“You have to adapt in the games because obviously it’s men’s football compared with Under-21s so it’s a big difference,” he highlighted. “Mentally as well, you have to be one hundred per cent focused for all 90 plus minutes so it’s a big step but I’m enjoying it and I’m relishing my opportunity.

“I think we were all disappointed not to come away with three points [against Arsenal] and I thought that as a team our performance was really good; everyone was pleased with the way that we played and the attitude that we showed towards the game.”

Chambers admits he’s also enjoying his battle with Nathaniel Clyne for the right back position in the team, and believes the pair of them are being kept on their toes as they fight for the same place. 

“Me and Clyney have a good rivalry and it’s healthy for it to be like that,” he said. “I think we push each other on, which is good as we can both better our games that way.

“At the moment, I’m just taking every game as it comes and just trying to prove to myself and everyone else which I think I have done over the past month and a half that I’m good enough to play at this level. 

“I’m trying in every game to do my best.”
