While he's away with the England Under-20 squad for the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup, James Ward-Prowse is blogging exclusively for saintsfc.co.uk.
Ward-Prowse linked up with the rest of Peter Taylor's 21-man party at St George's Park earlier this week, ahead of their departure for Turkey next Wednesday. Here's the 18-year-old's verdict on how the last few days have played out:
It's been a really productive week at St George's Park. We've all bonded terrifically well on and off the pitch, and it's put us in good stead as we fly out next Wednesday for the tournament to start.
We arrived on Tuesday to some lunch, followed by some training in the afternoon where we did some possession games – it was fairly light considering we just had a week of rest. It was also nice to receive some new kit, and we're looking forward to wearing the match kit for the games.
On the Wednesday it was a combination of hard work and fun – in the morning we did some more small-sided games along with game-related situations, and in the afternoon we went to Alton Towers! A few of the lads including myself were up for the rides, and we went on the likes of Oblivion. However a, few of the lads weren't up for it and they were left to watch us as we whizzed around on the rollercoasters! Nevertheless it was a good afternoon out as we bonded well and had some good laughs.
We then sat down together in the evening to watch the England Under-21s play – it was good to see Clyney playing well but unfortunately the team didn't get the result.
Thursday was the hard day of the week! We had a session in the morning, working on our attacking attributes, followed by a second session in the afternoon where again we continued the work on attacking.
We also did a gym session after training - it's been great to make use of the unbelievable facilities available to us here as there is a state-of-the-art gym, rehab rooms and swimming pool area.
We have one more session this morning, before we leave to go home for the weekend, then we return on Monday afternoon to really focus on the World Cup! It'll be nice to spend some time with family over the weekend before we leave.
Come back soon for the second edition of James Ward-Prowse's World Cup blog!
