An open day for the Saints Academy link-up with Sparsholt College is being held on Wednesday 29th May.
The second-chance programme, which has been established in order to give 16-19 year-olds a route back into football, is a new initiative that promises not to close the door on young players, whilst also providing qualifications to study for alongside playing.
The Elite Centre is based at Sparsholt college near Winchester, and enables players who have been released from professional clubs, including Southampton, to remain in football and education, so that those who are late developers or just missed out on a scholarship, have a chance to work their way back into the game.
Youngsters have the opportunity of joining a programme directly linked to a high end Premier League academy, whilst Elite Centre players will be given an opportunity of regular visits to the Southampton Academy base at Staplewood to join in training and play in matches.
Current Saints Under-18s defender Isaac Nehemie was the first graduate of the system, with the former Crystal Palace full-back joining the course last July before successfully going on to gain a full scholarship with the club in November.
Registrations are still being taken for September’s intake of pupils, with Sparsholt College currently recruiting players from all areas of the UK.
Anyone seeking an opportunity to further develop their football and extend their academic qualifications is urged to contact the College with a view to attending one of the Open Days or join them for a day’s trial/training by arrangement.
