Maya Aims To Rule Britannia

Maya Yoshida is aiming help Saints spoil Stoke's impressive home record this weekend.

The Potters have not lost a league game at the Britannia Stadium since a one-nil defeat at the hands of Sunderland in February.

But, despite Saturday's opponents currently flying high in eighth place, Yoshida is targeting an against-the-odds victory for his side.

"It will be a really, really tough game because Stoke haven't lost a home game this season," said the defender.

"They have a lot of tall guys so it will be a physical game – but I want to win every game, so we want to be the first to beat them there.

"We have to make sure we give away few corners and free-kicks because they will put long balls into the box.

"We have to fight and show a strong mentality."

Saints have won just one of their last five games, with Japanese international Maya hoping that the team fare well with fixtures against Stoke and Arsenal to come over the next week.

"We have a lot of games over Christmas and New Year, so we have to get more points," said Yoshida, who played in yesterday's draw at Fulham.

"I wish we got three points [yesterday]. It was a really difficult game because it was raining and windy, but we should have won.

"We didn't play so well in the first half but we got better in the second half, and fortunately we got a penalty and a point.

"It's a little bit strange for me because, when I was in Holland, we had a winter break so I spent Christmas time in Japan," he added of the Saints' festive fixture list.

"This is the first time I've spent it (Christmas) in Europe – but we are just footballers so we can't change the schedule!"
