Early Career

Tella grew up in Stevenage and spent ten years of his footballing childhood with Arsenal. 

After being released, the forward spent time on trial at both Reading and Norwich City before being signed by Southampton in 2017.

Beginning of Saints life 

Tella impressed in his first year with the Under-23s, scoring a hat-trick in the Senior Cup as well as impressing in Premier League 2.

He was rewarded with a one year contract extension in 2019. 

First team call-up

Tella featured in the warm-up win against Bristol City ahead of the Premier League resumption in June 2019 and got his first appearance in a Saints shirt in the first game after the restart as Saints beat Norwich City 3-0 just a few days later.

He wouldn't feature again in the 2019/20 season but was named on the bench by manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The striker then would get his full first team debut as he started in the 2-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Brentford in September 2020.
