Kyle Walker-Peters BiographyLast updated 18 Sep 2020
Former clubs: Tottenham Hotspur
London-born Walker-Peters joined the Tottenham academy in July 2013; a move that seemed destiny growing up, as he followed in the footsteps of his uncle, Phil Walker, who played for Millwall and Charlton.
During his first full season in the academy he featured in more than 25 league games for Spurs, including both of their FA Youth Cup ties.
The following season saw Spurs win the Premier League Under-18s Champions Cup and the IMG Cup, both of which Walker-Peters played his part in.
He also started all six games in Tottenham’s path to the FA Youth Cup semi-finals in 2014/15, scoring against Wolves and Nottingham Forest during the run.
Moving into the senior squad
Walker-Peters earned his reward for promising performances in the academy with a place on the 2015 post-season tour of Malaysia and Australia, where he made his senior-team debut.
Continuing on his work with the Under-21s during the following season, featuring in 20 of the 22 games during the 2015/16 season, he received the Under-23s Player of the Month award from the Premier League in December.
What followed was Walker-Peters’s first senior matchday squad appearance; a place on the bench during a 3-0 Premier League win over Bournemouth in March 2016.
The following season was a familiar mixture of impressive academy performances, followed by stints with the first-team; regularly training with the senior side and being included in the FA Cup squads against Aston Villa and Wycombe in 2017.
His first-team competitive debut came on the opening weekend of the 2017/18 campaign, starting and winning Man of the Match in a 2-0 win at Newcastle.
He would go on to feature nine times for the first-team during the campaign, scoring his first goal for Tottenham in a 6-1 win over Rochdale in February.
Walker-Peters would have to wait until the final day for his second start, but he again impressed by providing two assists in a 5-4 home victory over Leicester City.
His first involvement in the England set-up came in September 2014, featuring for the Under-18s.
Walker-Peters has since been capped at every level up to and including the Under-21s, including featuring in the Under-20 World Cup win in South Korea in June 2017.
Despite not starting the opening two games of the tournament, he featured at left-back in the final group stage game against the hosts and from then on retained his place until the final.
After 12 senior appearances for Spurs, Walker-Peters joined Saints on loan in January 2020, moving to St Mary's for the remainder of the season and providing Ralph Hasenhüttl with an option at both left and right-back.
Walker-Peters made his Saints debut in the 2-1 defeat to Burnley at St Mary's but would have to wait to make his next appearance as a half-time substitute in the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal after the Premier League resumption in place of Yan Valery.
Ever since, Walker-Peters has been a key member of the side as Saints went the rest of the 2019/20 season unbeaten. He also gained a fan in Ralph Hasenhüttl as the Austrian turned him into a permanent Saint in August 2020.
